Like so many triple D restaurants, this one was a neighborhood place. This neighborhood seemed to be kind of bohemian and working class. They had tables both inside and out. Memphis blues music was playing. The atmosphere is very relaxed. Still, I would not really call this a dive. It's too nice for that. It's noticeably clean. It looks like it was built yesterday.Too bad I showed up for lunch both times I visited here (Yes, I came back) because they had a great craft beer selection based on the chalk board entries. From what I could tell they were mostly local Portland craft beers.
The menu is barbecue, like the name suggests. I ordered the catfish po'boy special which I would not really call barbecue, but that's okay. The Catfish was really good. Breaded with corn meal and lightly deep fried. The frying oil was not even noticeable. Creamy relish didn't over power with the pickle. Potato salad was also really good. Paprika liberally on top gave it a nice punch. Whole chunks of red potato. Very tasty very fresh.Service was very good.
I gave Podnah's 8.9 because it really didn't fit the DDD formula. Still, this is a great restaurant.
